The sound record of Congolese team DC Motema Pembe over Kenyan teams may not count when they take on Gor Mahia in the CAF Confederation Cup play-offs next month may not count, a K’Ogalo official has said.

Gor Mahia Chief Executive Officer Lordick Aduda said in as much as Motema Pembe, which beat Kenya Breweries (now Tusker) in the final of the CAF Confederation Cup 25 years ago, is a big club, Gor are determined to give them pound for pound and hopefully prevail over them in the play-offs.

“25 years is a long time ago and most teams have undergone major changes not least Gor and Motema Pembe. The idea here is for Gor is to prepare adequately for the match to get the desired results,” said Aduda while affirming that K’Ogalo has resumed trained under Steve Polack to prepare for the match as well as league assignments.

As for CAF Confederation Cup play-offs, K’Ogalo will host the first leg in Nairobi on the last weekend of October while Motema Pembe will be at home in Kinshasa on the first weekend of November. The two teams were scheduled to meet earlier in the season before DC Motema Pembe pulled out of CECAFA Club Championships held in Rwanda.

Motema Pembe eliminated Al-Khartoum of Sudan 4-3 on post match penalty shootouts after two legs of their clash ended 2-2 on aggregate. The first leg played in Sudan ended 2-1 in favour of the DC Motema Pembe before Al-Khartoum turned tables in Congo with a 2-1 victory of their own to throw the tie into the lottery of penalties.

Gor are knocking on the group stage door for a third consecutive time while their Congolese opposition are awakening from continental slumber.
