Kenya records 147 new cases of COVID-19, total now at 1, 618

Kenya has confirmed additional 147 new cases of coronavirus after 2, 831 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced on Thursday.

This takes the total number of cases in the country to 1, 618.

All the new cases are Kenyans.

Ninety of the cases are from Nairobi, Mombasa (41) and the rest are distributed across five other counties.

Eighty seven of the cases are males while 60 are females.

In Nairobi, many of the cases are from Kibera (35), Lang'ata (15) and Madaraka (14).

The cases are between ages one year and 87 years.

"On a positive note, we have discharged 13 more patients. We now have 421 recoveries from the disease in the country," Kagwe said.

Three more patients have died, taking the total deaths in the country to 58.

"One of those who have died was in Kiambu and two in Mombasa. The two Mombasa cases had other underlying health issues," the CS said.
