At least 105,000 youth have been recruited as grassroots mobilisers to drum up support for the Azimio-One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

The youth, who are drawn from all the 47 counties, will carry out grassroots campaigns for the candidate.

Yesterday, the Azimio Presidential National Youth campaign secretariat leader Philip Pande said they had recruited a vibrant team. “The team will be expected to comb villages and urban centres to ensure voter turn out among their peers in the August 9 election is high,’’ he said.

Pande said the youth had in the past not used their power to bring about progressive change and fight for policies that will improve their lives. “We have failed to explore our population and strength to our advantage and to live up to the billing. This is what we must work hard to achieve.”

Speaking to the press in Kisumu, the Presidential National Youth campaign secretariat leader said they were still recruiting more volunteers, saying they wanted to ensure many young eligible voters take part in the August 9 election.

“We know that the youth are the majority and so we are focusing on them to help to bring about progressive change across the country,’’ he said.
