Azimio-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga yesterday pledged to put up new factories and revive those that had collapsed in the Western region if elected on Tuesday.

Raila said he had come up with a ‘One-County-One Product’ economic model which targets to have at least one factory per county in the region.

He said the revival of Mumias Sugar Company in Kakamega county was on course and that no amount of pressure would halt the exercise.

The former  said his would-be government would put up a maize milling plant in Trans Nzoia besides reviving Webuye’s Pan-African Paper Mills and Malakisi Cotton Ginnery in Bungoma and Busia counties, respectively.  “We will also construct a ballast-processing factory in Vihiga. These will be put up alongside other industries to be established by the respective county governments and private investors,” he added.

Revive economy

Raila made the remarks when he addressed a crowd that attended his last mega rally at the Bukhungu Stadium ahead of the August 9 polls.

He said his administration would immediately embark on reviving the economy, while maintaining and improving on the gains made by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

His running mate Deputy President Martha Karua promised to ensure that she would strongly support Raila to implement the agenda of Azimio.

“We are well aware of the problems bedevilling our country and I can assure Kenyans that we shall fix it,” she said.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya assured Raila that he had the backing of the Luhya Community and other residents of Western region. He said Kenya Kwanza had no commitment for the Western region because even their promises were laced with conditions.
