Leaders of the Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) church say they are not supporting any political faction in the August 9 General Election.

John Okinda, the national overseer, said although the church has a role to play in ensuring proper governance, it is upon the people to decide the leaders they want.

Speaking in Kigumo, Murang’a, Okinda said followers of the church are free to make their personal decision on whom to vote for.

“As PEFA church, we are not supporting any political faction. We want to steer clear of politics and give people freedom to choose”, he said.

“However, elect visionary leaders who will represent your interests and bring development”, he advised.

Interestingly, Okinda asked the faithful not to vote for the Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah “as he does not have the virtues of a leader”.

Bhang agenda

“Don’t support this man because his agenda is to legalise bhang. We know the harm bhang has done to our young people,” he said.

Okinda urged politicians to maintain peace during the campaigns since this is just a season that shall pass and should not set the country on fire. “Leaders should be agents of peace, especially now,” he added.

Okinda urged candidates eyeing various seats to accept the results, as only one person can be elected for each slot. “There will be winners and losers,” he said.
