Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati has said the commission is ready to conduct the August 9 polls and cannot be directed by any individual or authority on what to do.

Chebukati said the commission is guided by the constitution only.

"We are not directed by any individual or authority. We are answerable only to the constitution," Chebukati said on Thursday, July 7.

IEBC ready to conduct election

The IEBC boss further asked politicians to stop spreading propaganda, saying the commission is ready to deliver the polls.

"IEBC has prepared for this election more than ever before. We will ensure that we have a transparent process. We are going to give Kenyans free, fair, and credible election. That is our commitment to the country," he stated.

At the same time, Chebukati announced that the first batch of ballot papers will be received at JKIA today, July 7.

"The ballot papers are being printed in Greece. The last ballot papers to be received will be those of the presidential election," he said.

He said the tender for ballot printing was done in a transparent manner.

"The tender was done in an open manner and the commissioners were not involved. It is a management issue," he stated.

He further dismissed allegations that there were plans to print extra ballot papers, especially for the presidential election.
