Former Attorney General Githu Muigai has criticised Siaya Governor James Orengo for his comments that the August 9 election was marred with irregularities.

Muigai who is IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati'slawyer highlighted that there were governors and Senators elected through the same process that they term 'flawed' yet are satisfied with the results.

"As we sit here, there are no less than three governors and senators who were elected under the IEBC. I plead with the court to ask them ‘are they happy with their own election’ if so, how then is it that this election is irredeemably flawed?" he asked.

The former AG further defended Chebukati stating that he had done his best in the just-completed election.

“…This gentleman goes beyond anything we have ever had before," he stated.

Muigai's sentiments were in response to Orengo's submission at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

In his submission, Orengo, representing Azimio la Umoja -One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga, told the court that the election was flawed.

"The Raila case is not a conspiracy theory or an ordinary event. The IEBC is dysfunctional and cannot carry out a credible election,"Orengo added.
