Suna East MP Junet Mohamed now says President Uhuru Kenyatta could have been impeached were it not for Raila Odinga's intervention.

Speaking in Homa Bay County on Sunday, July 3, 2021, Junet said the political truce between Uhuru and the long-serving opposition leader, popularly known as the handshake, saved the Head of State from being kicked out of State House.

He alleged that Deputy President William Ruto was behind the plot to impeach Uhuru.

"Yeye (Ruto) mwenyewe amesema leo kwamba yeye alikuwa na shida na mkubwa wake rais Uhuru Kenyatta kwanzia mwaka wa 2016 (Ruto has admitted today that he had issues with his boss Uhuru Kenyatta from 2016)," Junet said.

"Na sisi tulisema 2017 baada ya uchaguzi agenda ya kwanza ya bunge ilikua ku-impeach Uhuru Kenyatta...Ruto alikua amesema tutoe Uhuru kwa mamlaka kwa sababu si mtu mzuri. Ndio maana Uhuru akatufata Raila wakafanya handshake. Ruto ndio alikua anasumbua Uhuru," the legislator added.

Loosely translated, "We said in 2017 immediately after the general election that the first agenda in parliament was to impeach Uhuru Kenyatta. Ruto had asked us to impeach Uhuru, saying he is not a good person. This is the reason Uhuru looked for Raila to have a handshake. Ruto was the one causing problems in government."

The lawmaker further dismissed Ruto's claims that the handshake was why the DP fell out with the president.

"Shida ya Ruto na Uhuru ilianza zamani kwa sababu Ruto ndio alikua anasumbua Uhuru (The issues between Ruto and Uhuru started long before the handshake because Ruto was the problem)," he added.

Ruto blames Raila for failed 'marriage' with Uhuru

Ruto has severally accused the Azimio One Kenya coalition's presidential candidate of the failures of the Jubilee administration.

The Kenya Kwanza alliance's presidential flag bearer claims that the handshake derailed Jubilee's Big 4 Agenda, hence the high cost of living the country is currently battling.

He says the Kenya Kwanza administration will revive the program and focus on producing sufficient foodstuff, agro-processing, value addition, and provision of housing to create jobs.
