Nairobi County Woman Representative Esther Passaris has refuted reports that she is out of the race to defend her seat in the August 9 poll.

In a tweet on Monday, April 18, 2022, Passaris termed the reports as false and malicious, indicating that she is still in the race.

"My attention has been drawn to malicious and false allegations purporting that I have stepped down from defending my seat. Nothing could be further from the truth. Serving the People of Nairobi as their Woman Rep. has been a great honor, and I intend to continue this noble journey," Passaris wrote.

Initially, there had been reports that Passaris has stepped down for Anitah Epale Nanjala, who is seeking to unseat her through the ODM Party.

Passaris, who has been missing in action in the political arena of late, won the seat in 2017 on an ODM ticket, flooring Rachel Shebesh, who was her biggest rival.

If she goes up to the ballot, Passaris will face Millicent Omanga who has already clinched the ticket of Deputy President William Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Esther Passaris ran for the same seat during the 2013 General Election and lost to Rachel Shebesh.
