Infotrak: Igathe closing in on Sakaja in Nairobi governor race

Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja would win the August polls if the elections were held today, a new survey by InfoTrak has revealed.

The poll results released on Wednesday, July 6 indicate that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate is leading in popularity at 39 per cent followed closely by his main challenger Polycarp Igathe of Jubilee at 33 per cent.

Agnes Kagure, an independent candidate, is ranked third with an approval rate of 0.4 per cent. 24 per cent of the residents are undecided.

The firm conducted 1,024 interviews between July 2 and 3, 2022 across all the 17 constituencies and 85 wards in Nairobi. The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 3 per cent.

"Interviews were conducted through Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI)," InfoTrak said.

Sakaja's enjoys overwhelming support from young people

The data shows that a majority of the young people aged between 18-26 years support Sakaja's bid at 47 per cent compared to Igathe's 26 per cent.

In the Senatorial race, Edwin Sifuna of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is leading in popularity at 44 per cent, followed by Margaret Wanjiru of UDA at 12 per cent. 39 per cent of those polled remain undecided while 5 per cent refused to disclose their preferred candidate.

According to Infotrak, incumbent Nairobi Women Rep Esther Passaris enjoys a commanding lead of 46 per cent against her closest competitor Millicent Omanga of UDA who came a distant second with 20 per cent.
