Embakasi East Jubilee MP aspirant Maina Waruinge has quit the race and the ruling party Jubilee for Deputy President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Announcing the development, Ruto, who is hunting for votes in Nyeri County, said Waruingi will now support Francis Mureithi.

"Embakasi East Jubilee MP aspirant Maina Waruinge quits the race and defects to UDA to support Francis Mureithi," Ruto posted on Facebook on August 2, 2022.

Waruinge was welcomed to UDA by disgraced Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu, the UDA candidate Mureithi alongside other leaders.

Mureithi to face off with incumbent Embakasi East MP

Mureithi will now battle it out with the incumbent MP Babu Owino who is seeking a second term on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

Ruto bagged Waruinge with less than seven days to the August 9 elections.
