The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (Kepsa) has encouraged Kenyans to resume their normal business operations.

Call comes days after the electoral commission declared William Ruto as president-elect.

Kepsa chief executive Carole Kariuki, in a statement yesterday, said Kenyans should resume their nation-building activities, urging that the peaceful environment will boost revenues.

“Our duty now after the elections is to continue to build our country. Let us get back to work and to our businesses,” she said.  Kariuki observed that the country needs to rebuild from the effects of Covid-19 pandemic, drought and challenges such as the ongoing war in Ukraine and rising global inflation that have led to a higher cost of living globally.

The Kepsa boss at the same time commended Kenyans and all political leaders for a milestone in democratic maturity, having witnessed a peaceful General Election in the country’s history.

“Peace is the cornerstone for a thriving economy and business environment. Kenyans have been patient so far; this marks a new chapter in Kenya’s democratic history,” she said.

Legal option

She at the same time lauded the Azimio-one Kenya team for considering the legal option to go to court, saying  they expect the same to be conducted in a peaceful environment.

“The business community has confidence in this country and in its justice system,” she noted.

Meanwhile, the Commission of Administrative Justice has released its preliminary report on observation of the General Election, lauding the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission  for an improved electoral process.

Chairperson Florence Kajuju said measures taken by the commission to address the shortcomings that led to nullification of the 2017 results was commendable.

“This is evidenced by the few incidents observed in relation to Kiems kit failure in this regard, we found that the level of preparedness by IEBC was satisfactory, and generally the elections were successful,” Kajuju observed.
