Lobby raises alert over poll violence in Nakuru
A human rights organization has raised the red flag over fears of ethnic violence in parts of Nakuru County during next month’s polls.
Midfrift Hurinet Executive Director Joseph Omondi yesterday attributed the rising tension to the bitter fallout between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, saying their frequent public spats do not augur well for national unity.
He now claims some people were already planning to travel to their rural homes for fear of violence.
Omondi urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission and electoral commission to step up the war against hate speech and other electoral malpractices.
“The rift and rivalry between the President and his deputy have had a bearing on community relations,” he said.
