Natembeya clinches Trans Nzoia governor’s seat in landslide win

Former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has been declared the winner of Trans Nzoia gubernatorial race.

Natembeya, who ran on Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) ticket, garnered 158,919 votes to defeat his closest challenger Chris Wamalwa of Ford Kenya, who managed 79,020 votes.

Wamalwa threw in the towel yesterday after preliminary results indicated that he was headed for a defeat.

"The Elections are now over and the results are out. I have not been successful in my quest to be the second Governor of our great County" the tweet read in part.

The vocal lawmaker recognized his creator and supporters in the race.

"I thank the Almighty God, all my supporters, from both far and near, for their unyielding support. Receive my eternal gratitude" he said.

Gladys Wanga triumphs

In Homa Bay, County Woman Representative Gladys Wanga was declared governor after securing a big win over her closest rival former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero who vied as an independent candidate.

Wanga was declared the winner by Homa Bay county Returning Officer at around 3:00 am on Friday morning August 12, 2022.

She floored Kidero by 90,377 votes having garnered 244,599 votes against her closest competitor who managed 154,182 votes.
