UDA’s Mohammed Ali re-elected as Nyali MP
Nyali Member of Parliament Mohamed Ali has retained his seat after garnering 32,933 votes in Tuesday's polls.
The former investigative journalist and UDA party candidate beat seven other candidates with his closet rival, Said Abdallah of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) getting 18,642 votes.
Nyali constituency returning officer, John Ole Taiswa, declared the results at National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) constituency tallying centre on Thursday evening.
Ole Taiswa issued the winning certificate to the MP-elect before inviting him to address his supporters at the tallying centre.
Mombasa Businessman Eric Gitonga, who contested ran as an independent candidate, emerged third with 1,135 votes.
He was followed by Millicent Atieno Odhiambo of Wiper, who got 904 votes. Jubilee's Yasir Noor Mohamed managed 889 votes.
Another independent candidate, Japheth Marine Otieno, managed 601 votes while Edward Mark Osewe of Pamoja Africa Alliance got 124 votes.
Kadu Asili's Ferdinand Katana had 264 votes and a third independent candidate, Joshua Otieno Ndere, garnered 166 votes.
Mohamed Ali's pledge to Nyali residents
Ali thanked his supporters and Nyali residents for giving him a second term in office and called on his opponents to join hands and work closely with him.
"I know the journey has not been easy, most of you know that l almost got killed however l now welcome my opponents to work with me for the good of Nyali residents let's put aside our differences for it's my time when their time comes l will offer my support," he said.
