A blooper by a pastor at a Kenya Kwanza event became a trending topic on Friday, June 10, as Kenyans online questioned her loyalty.

The pastor was among a women's delegation attending the conference hosted by Deputy President William Ruto at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

She was leading the opening prayers when she mistakenly referred to the Ruto-led coalition as 'Kenya Kwisha'.

In a video doing rounds on social media, the member of the clergy quickly noticed the gaffe and retracted the statement.

The 'Kenya Kwisha' phrase is commonly used by Ruto's rival politicians in the Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition, to mock the Kenya Kwanza team. The Azimio camp claims Ruto is unfit to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in August.

The pastor became the butt of the joke as a section of netizens took a dig at Kenya Kwanza.

The UDA party presidential candidate is expected to launch a Kenya Kwanya Women Charter later today.

Ruto launches Kenya Kwanza women league

The launch comes days after he unveiled the Kenya Kwanza women league.

The launch is seen as a tactical strategy for the seasoned politician to neutralize a wave created by the Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition with the naming of Martha Karua as Raila Odinga's running mate.

The choice of the Narc Kenya leader as Raila's running mate is said to have reduced Ruto's influence, especially in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

The candidate, who unveiled Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate last month, has promised to prioritise issues affecting women if he wins the August 9 polls.

“I want to commit that as UDA party leader, women will not be there to be seen. They will be there to be heard and to lead,” he said on Sunday
