The Central region administration has put on notice politicians who incite the public during the campaigns.

Esther Maina, Central Regional Commissioner, warned that legal action will be taken against politicians who use hate speech or other forms of incitement while campaigning.

Political inciters warned

Ms Maina said her office and other security agencies have received reports of some aspirants who incite people against their opponents, the latest being an incident in Nyandarua county where a truck carrying food donations from the government was turned back by locals.

Another politician from Kiambu who is aspiring for the governorship was also recently captured on video insulting his opponents in public, using unprintable words.

“This time we are not going to stomach nonsense from these politicians. We are on the alert and will reign in those bent on causing chaos. This is childish behaviour which will not be tolerated,” the RC told journalists after she chaired a meeting of administrators from Kiambu and Murang’a counties at the Mang’u High hall in Juja sub-county.

Ms Maina, who was accompanied by the regional police commander Manase Musyoka, maintained that the government will continue with its program of feeding the hungry, noting that this was not pegged on campaign politics.

“We are hot on the heels of those behind the incitement of members of the public to reject government relief food. We shall give food even after the elections because it is the duty of the government to ensure our people don’t starve,” she added.

She said security measures have been put in place to ensure a peaceful election on August 9, stating that enough police officers will be deployed in the polling areas.
