The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is today, June 29, 2022, meeting all four presidential candidates as the clock ticks toward the August 9 general election.

The candidates are being hosted by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati at Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club in Nairobi for consultation on various issues touching on the August 9 polls.

The four are William Ruto (United Democratic Alliance Party), Raila Odinga (Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition party ), George Wajackoya of Roots party and Agano party's Waihiga Mwaure.

Thorny issues touching on the printing of ballot papers and voter register are expected to take centre stage at the meeting.

Also expected to be on the agenda include issues on IEBC’s failure to make public a KPMG audit report, transmission of poll results and illegal transfer of voters.

Notably, both the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza coalitions have taken a common stand on the phasing out of the physical register for voter identification in favour of the biometric system.

Printing of ballot papers has been a subject of political disputation in previous elections, with claims that they can be printed in excess to manipulate the outcome.

The two main political camps have also taken issue with the electoral agency over its unilateral decision to favour the biometric voter register without being complemented by a physical one.

They have also questioned how IEBC would transmit results from areas not covered by 3G and 4G networks.
