Political leaders who played active roles in the botched attempt to topple Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula as Ford Kenya party- leader are headed for losses if IEBC's provisional results are anything to go by.

In 2020, Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, Tongaren Member of Parliament Eseli Simiyu and his Kanduyi counterpart Wafula Wamunyinyi staged a coup in the lion's party.

Others who wanted Wetang’ula overthrown were Milima Ward Member of County Assembly Elvis Abuka Amunavi.

Already, Abuka is trailing Jerusa Aleu of the Ford Kenya party and was the first contestant to concede defeat.

“Thank you Milima People for giving me an opportunity to serve you as the second MCA. It was a great hoor and a privilege. For my supporters, you fought good fight. Despite all the challenges, you remained steadfast. I will forever remain grateful,” Amunavi said.

At the time we were going to press, Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu who was seeking to retain his parliamentary seat on a DAP-K party ticket was also trailing.

Ford Kenya candidate John Murumba Chikati is leading with a landslide in the race that attracted more than 10 contestants.

Chikati has sought the seat since 2002 when it was still the larger Kimilili Constituency.

Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka of Ford Kenya party is also leading incumbent county head Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati in the Bungoma gubernatorial race.
