Raila receives grand reception as he raids Ruto’s Eldoret backyard
Azimio - One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga received a warm reception during his campaign in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, on Sunday, July 31.
Thousands of residents turned up at Huruma Grounds to listen to the Azimio team sell their agenda to the electorate ahead of the forthcoming August 9 polls.
Eldoret which falls within the vote-rich Rift Valley region is considered a stronghold of Raila's Kenya Kwanza rival William Ruto.
Raila and his running mate Martha Karua stormed Eldoret town after addressing a rally in Nandi Hills, where the Azimio team equally received a grand reception.
The duo promised to deal with the issue of the high cost of living if elected in August.
While hitting out at Ruto, Raila asked the Deputy President to drop Rigathi Gachagua as running mate, arguing that the Mathira Member of Parliament is not fit to hold a public office.
Raila called for the disqualification of Gachagua for allegedly masterminding a well-orchestrated scheme that saw him defraud several counties of huge sums of money.
The outspoken lawmaker was on Thursday, July 28, ordered by the Anti-Corruption High Court to forfeit Ksh200 million to the State.
The court ruled that the MP had failed to show a legitimate source of the money held in three banks at Rafiki Microfinance Bank.
