Azimio-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga yesterday revealed how President Uhuru Kenyatta reached out to him to block a plot to impeach him after the 2017 General Election.

Speaking at the historic Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu county, Raila claimed Uhuru approached him after the last election, informing him of a plot by a section of the Jubilee leadership to impeach him, a thinly veiled reference to Deputy President William Ruto.

“Uhuru requested me to help him and I agreed because I understood his situation. Ignore the propaganda from our opponents in Kenya Kwanza who have been spreading lies,” said Raila, alluding to the 2018 Handshake between him and the president.

He hit out at Ruto, accusing him of embarking on a campaign after the 2017 General election, instead of helping the president deliver the Jubilee promises to Kenyans.

“Immediately after the election, he (Ruto) started campaigning on day one, instead of helping the president deliver on his promises, he started loitering across the country, campaigning for himself,” said Raila.

He dismissed Ruto’s assertions the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) campaign had derailed the Jubilee transformation agenda, saying that on the contrary, it would have benefitted the residents of the Mt Kenya region.

“Is he not the one who opposed the BBI? We wanted to help Kenyans through the one-man-one-shilling principle,” said Raila.

The presidential hopeful reiterated that Ruto’s running-mate Rigathi Gachagua should be disqualified after his Sh200 million account was frozen by court which ruled the money reverts to the State.

“Mr Chebukati should effect the law and remove him from the register,” Raila stated.

“The election will be about justice and economic liberation of the country. It is about right and wrong and we as a country are at a crossroads,” he declared.
