Azimio-One Kenya coalition flag bearer Raila Odinga is set to unveil his running mate on Sunday, May 15 at Kamukunji ground.

Raila who has just concluded his tour to the coast region has dragged the announcement to tomorrow after receiving a final report from the selection panel chaired by former Cabinet minister Noah Wekesa on Thursday, May 12.

Speculation about Raila’s choice is centred on three prime contenders said to have been shortlisted by the panel. They include; Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, her Wiper party counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, in that order.

The choice of a running mate is likely to have a major impact on the outcome of the August 9 polls as the two front runners; Raila and Deputy President William Ruto fight for the political spotlight.

On his part, DP Ruto is expected to name his choice of a running mate today and end the prolonged suspense.

Reports indicate that the Second in Command has been embroiled in deep consultations with the who is who in the country ahead of the announcement that is slated for today, May 14, 2022.

It is believed that his deputy will come from the vote-rich Mount Kenya region in a bid to galvanise his support in the vast region that has been rallying behind his presidency.

Although scanty details continue to surround his selection process, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, his Kiharu counterpart Ndindi Nyoro, Governor Anne Waiguru, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and Tharakanithi senator Kithure Kindiki are among those said to be his possible running mates.
