Ruiru MP beats six others to retain seat

Ruiru MP Simon King’ara of UDA has been declared winner of the parliamentary race, beating six other candidates.

Returning officer Bernard Onyango announced that King’ara had garnered 68,784 votes to emerge victorious over his closest opponent former MP Esther Gathogo of Jubilee who got 27,674 votes.

Ruiru constituency which has over 172,000 registered voters posted a 62 per cent voter turnout with slightly over 102,000 casting their votes.

King’ara also reached out to the election losers, asking them to join him in building the populous constituency.

“The victory does not belong to me, it is for the people of Ruiru. I am asking those whom we were competing with to join me so that we can serve our people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dolly Anampiu (UDA) made history when she captured the Mwiki ward seat, to become the first woman to secure the position in the area.

She garnered 9,562 votes to emerge one of the eight newly elected MCAs in Ruiru - all newcomers. They include Odhiambo Power the only one elected on a Jubilee Party ticket.
