‘Opinion polls are concocted in boardrooms’ Ruto angrily dismisses report he is trailing Raila
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential candidate William Ruto has dismissed a survey conducted by TIFA which indicates that he is trailing Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
According to TIFA, Raila would win the presidential election by 42 per cent compared to Ruto's 39 per cent if the election was held.
Speaking while campaigning in Naitiri, Bungoma county on Monday evening July 11, 2022, Ruto angrily dismissed the survey conducted by TIFA claiming it was sponsored by his opponents.
"Hawa watu tumewashinda na mbinu zote. Tumewashinda na manifesto, tumewashinda na mpango, tumewashinda na sera, tumewashinda na campaign. Ati wamebaki na mambo mawili, wamebaki na fake opinion poll. Kazi yao ni kuenda kuchora opinion poll ohh sijui nani ako mbele, sijui nani ako mbele…
(These people we have defeated them by all means. We have a better manifesto, we have a better plan, we have a better agenda, and we even have a better campaign strategy. Now they only have two things to do - fake opinion poll. Their work is to concoct opinion polls showing they are ahead of us)," Ruto ranted.
"Wacha kutusumbua na opinion wanainchi wa Kenya wako tayari kuamua tarehe tisa mwezi wa nane. Ama niaje, si nyinyi ndo mutaamua? Kwani wale wanafanya opinion poll kwa maboard room ndo wataamua?
(Stop disturbing us with opinion polls, Kenyans are ready to decide on August 9. Are you not the people who will decide? Or is it those concocting the results of opinion polls in boardrooms who will decide?)," he added.
Ruto dismisses deep state
The Deputy President also referred to his opponents as daydreamers while rubbishing claims that the deep state would steal his votes.
Ruto told Naitiri residents that the deep state doesn't exist, noting that him being the second in command in government would have known of its existence if indeed the rumours were true.
"Ati jambo ingine wako naye ati wanazunguka naye wanasema sijui wako na deep state sijui wako na system ati wataiba kura yetu. Sasa wewe mtu wa Naitiri si munajua mimi nkisimama hapa mimi ndo deputy president ya Kenya?
"Sasa nyinyi mukiona kuna deep state Kenya ambayo mimi sijui kama naibu wa rais? Kuna system Kenya hii ambayo sijui kama naibu wa rais? Si hawa watu wanaota ndoto ya mchana? Na mukiniona macho yangu hii mimi nakaa mtu wa kuibiwa kura? Hio ni ndoto bwana," Ruto said.
