Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has congratulated Kenya Kwanza and UDA presidential candidate William Ruto for attending the national presidential debate on Tuesday night.

In a social media post, Mudavadi described Ruto, who debated alone, as the 'last man standing'.

"Congratulations on a great debate. The last man standing," Mudavadi said.

Ruto debates solo

Ruto debated solo after his main rival Raila Odinga of the Azimio One Kenya coalition failed to turn up for the event.

Raila, through his allies, had earlier stated he had no intention of sharing the same platform with a man of a 'tainted character'.

Ruto and Raila are touted as the front runners in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The two will face off against Roots party candidate George Wajackoyah and David Mwaure of Agano party in the polls slated for August 9.
