Deputy President William Ruto yesterday said the August 9 General Election will be a battle of choice between “Kenya Kwanza’s economic revolution and the rival camp’s empty rhetoric.”

Addressing rallies in Njukini area in Taveta Constituency and Voi town, Ruto asked voters to turn out in large numbers in support of his candidacy in August, saying Kenya Kwanza government will offer quick economic solutions to the common citizen, through a Bottom-Up economic model.

The Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate described his Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya rival Raila Odinga as a project of selfish tycoons and asked Kenyans to ‘reject imposed candidates.’

“Let me ask you. You know we have some people who are very arrogant in Nairobi. They are sitting in some hotels in Nairobi where they want to control us by imposing on us that kitendawili man. So I want to ask you this, are those in Nairobi going to plan how you decide or are you going to decide for yourselves. These people have taken us for granted. Imagine they are instructing that old man to change the constitution and create more positions and more powers for president. They want him to restart his reggae,” said Ruto.

He said before the Handshake, the cost of farm inputs, maize flour and other commodities was affordable but now everything has skyrocketed.

“Before Handshake fertilizer would cost Sh2,800 but now it is close to Sh7,000, maize floor would cost Sh90 and now it’s over Sh230… Haven’t these people destroyed the economy? Don’t you think they need to pack and leave or not? Let’s load them on a wheelbarrow and wheel them home,” he said.

At the same time he promised to provide title deeds to settle squatters in Taveta if he is elected as country’s fifth president on August 9.

In Murang’a, Ruto’s running mate Rigathi Gachagua reiterated that Raila’s running mate Martha Karua will not change  the Azimio leader’s political fortunes  in Mt Kenya region.

Gachagua said Karua is only being used to sugarcoat Raila’s claim he was unsellable in the region.

Accompanied by the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, his Kiharu counterpart Ndindi Nyoro, Rigathi said the region will never embrace Odinga despite the numerous efforts by the government to sell him.

Gachagua said they shall beat their opponents hand down in the August poll.

“We shall send Odinga home in August alongside Uhuru Kenyatta whose term is coming to an end,” he said.

He however appealed to the locals to turn out in large numbers and vote for them saying that will jealousy guard the votes and ensure there will be no rigging.

“Come out and vote and leave the rest to us we will ensure your vote counts and won’t be lost,” he said.  “We will not give any room for rigging because we know there could be such a plan to ensure we don’t get the seat.”

Muturi said Odinga is a ‘toxic’ leader who should not be given a chance to lead the country as he has no good will for the people.

“We know this man and no amount of sugar coating him will make  us accept him in the region,” said Muturi. “Jubilee was swallowed by ODM which has been changed to Azimio but even this does not change anything about their candidate.”

Muturi also said Azimio is giving empty promises to the people saying they are being unrealistic. “What they are promising is not achievable and thy know it but it’s just to hoodwink people to vote for them,” he said.

He said Ruto has massive support from the residents and Odinga has no chance in the region.

Gachagua pledged to restore the economic glory of the region adding that it’s just a matter of policies to put everything back on track.

Kuria said the president is looking for a way to remain in power for longer even after his term in office lapses.

“Just like we rejected Uhuru as the late president Moi’s project in 2002 we are also going to do the same to the duo because we know they will be puppet leaders” he said.  “We want a change in leadership in this country but we will not anybody’s project be the one to take over this mantle.”
