We firmly stand with Azimio, we cannot be bought by Kenya Kwanza – Nairobi MCAs

Nairobi Member of County Assembly (MCAs) allied to the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition have assured supporters that they cannot be bought by Kenya Kwanza maintaining that they firmly stand behind the coalition.

Addressing the media at City Hall on Saturday, August 20, the leaders led by minority Whip Peter Imwatok affirmed their allegiance to the coalition stating that they are held together by the principles and unwavering support for the coalition leadership.

“Azimio is a united house. Azimio -One Kenya Alliance is intact in Nairobi. We are held together by principles and unwavering support for our Coalition leadership,” Imwatoka stated.

“We are ready to defend Baba to the last man. In the meantime, we shall wait for the decision of the Supreme Court and other Constitutional processes. We urge our supporters in the City to remain calm as we await our leaders’ directions,”

Their sentiments came after a section of elected leaders allied to the coalition defected to President-lect William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza alliance.

Azimio leaders defect to Kenya Kwanza

The defections were witnessed a few days after the DP was declared president-lect in the August 9 election.

Ruto was declared the winner of Kenya’s 2022 presidential election with 7,176, 141 votes, which is 50.49% of the total votes cast.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati announced the final results on Monday, August 15, 2022, at the Bomas of Kenya.

“In accordance with the constitution and the law, I Wafula Chebukati, chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), hereby declare that Ruto William Samoei of ID number 6847208 has been duly elected as the President of the Republic of Kenya under the provisions of Article 138 of the Constitution in the pe held on 9th day of August 2022,” Chebukati announced.
