Webuye East: Chebukati announces first official presidential result

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Thursday evening started tallying the presidential results at the national tallying centre in Bomas, Nairobi, more than 48 hours after the polls closed.

Speaking to members of the press, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati announced the first verified results from Webuye East Constituency, Bungoma County.

Kenya Kwanza presidential flag bearer William Ruto is leading in the constituency with 16,412 votes (53.89%), followed closely by Raila Odinga of the Azimio One Kenya coalition who garnered 13,720 votes (44.99%).

George Wajackoyah of Roots party and David Mwaure of Agano party got 249 and 110 votes respectively.

According to the IEBC boss, a total of 30,491 voters out of the 48,950 registered voters cast their votes in the constituency on Tuesday, August 9.

The number of spoilt votes was 384.

Tallying of the votes from the 290 constituencies across the country continues.
