Wetangula elected National Assembly Speaker
Former Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula is the new Speaker of the National Assembly.
This is after his competitor Kenneth Marende withdrew from the race after garnering 130 votes in the first round of voting against Wetangula's 215.
Voting was supposed to go to the second round for the winner to get 233 votes as required by the constitution.
Wetangula was being fronted by the Kenya Kwanza alliance while Marende was being sponsored by the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition.
According to Kenya's 2010 Constitution, National Assembly Speaker is the third in the country's command after President and Deputy President.
