Three Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party women legislators in Homa Bay county have retained their seats in the just ended General election.

On the other hand, Gogo managed to beat her challengers to emerge the winner in the election. She garnered 22,095 votes.

Both Obara and Gogo will be serving their second term as MPs while Millie is going for her third.

In what appeared to be the fruit of the six-piece voting pattern campaign, Nyanza region voters elected majorly ODM candidates.

In Kisumu county, six out of seven MPs elected ran on the ODM party wave in the region while in Homa Bay, all the incumbent MPs were re-elected on the Orange party ticket.

The party leader Raila Odinga alongside other affiliated politicians made passionate appeals repeatedly to the residents to vote for the party candidates only.

“I appeal to you to vote for the ODM candidates because they are my foot soldiers. We also want the party to remain strong,” Raila said on a recent tour of the region.

In another hotly contested race, area outgoing woman representative Rosa Buyu floored long-serving Kisumu West MP Olago Aluoch to clinch the parliamentary seat.

Buyu who ran on an ODM party ticket garnered 39,658 votes against Olago who got 19,045 votes. The incumbent Olago vied for the seat on an MDG party ticket.

In the neighbouring Kisumu Central constituency, new political entrant and businessman Joshua Oron beat incumbent Fred Ouda to secure the seat.

Oron (ODM) garnered 54,060 votes to clinch the seat against his closest contender Fred Ouda (independent) who got 26,104 votes in the fiercely contested political competition.

Kisumu’s Kuppet Executive secretary Zablon Awange came in a distant third with 653 votes followed by Victor Radido with 559 while Brian Peterson and Eliud Opany came in fourth and fifth with 526 and 420 votes respectively.

In his acceptance speech, Oron promised to serve all the residents within the constituents regardless of their political stand.

Seme MP James Nyikal also recaptured the seat on an ODM ticket with 30,728 votes beating his close challenger Haggai Hawi Kadiri, an independent candidate who garnered 14,402 votes.

Muhoroni’s Onyango K’Oyoo also retained his seat on an ODM ticket as was Jared Okelo (Nyando).

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma and his Kasipul counterpart Charles Ong’ondo were also re-elected.

Kaluma garnered 24,885 votes while Ong’ondo managed 40,210 votes.

Former ODM leader Raila Odinga’s aide Caroli Omondi won the Suba South parliamentary seat with 25,036 votes, taking over from former area MP John Mbadi.

Junet Mohammed won Suna East parliamentary seat, despite being absent in the campaign period and delegating the work to his wife Jamah. Junet got 26,516 votes.
