The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has revealed that 17,000 people have applied for the tax amnesty programme launched in September.

According to KRA's Head of Domestic Taxes Department Caroline Rotich, the taxman has been able to collect Ksh3.4 billion through the programme since it was launched on September 1, 2023.

"More than 17,000 taxpayers have applied for the tax amnesty which commenced on 1st September 2023, and we expect the number to grow immensely. We have so far collected Ksh. 3.4 Billion from the ongoing tax amnesty programme," Rotich stated.

KRA has also urged taxpayers who have pending objections and court cases to consider out-of-court settlements through the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) framework to benefit from the tax amnesty programme.

"We encourage taxpayers to apply for the tax amnesty early enough to enjoy longer instalment periods. We also urge taxpayers who have pending objections and court cases to consider out-of-court settlements through the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) framework to benefit from the tax amnesty programme," she added.

The amnesty program applies to persons with penalties and interest but have no principal taxes owing for periods up to December 31, 2022.

Also eligible are persons who have principal tax accrued up to December 31, 2022, but pay the outstanding principal tax debt by June 30, 2024.
