A few weeks after venturing into fish farming, TV personality Masanduku Junior aka Nathan Kimani has landed a deal with Global Tilapia, a fish retail chain that will see him become their main distributor.

Speaking to Agribiz, Masanduku said that the partnership will see him deliver fresh tilapia fish bred in Lake Victoria to homes across Nairobi through Global Tilapia’s network of retail outlets.

“I have been contemplating this venture for a while since I learnt that there is great demand for healthy, pocket-friendly fish in Nairobi.

I ventured into fish farming in November last year and would like to urge all Kenyans to support my venture by ordering raw or fried fish from Global Tilapia,”

According to him, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, which affected many entertainers prompted him to seek an alternative livelihood as a way of augmenting his meager earnings from entertainment work.

However, he reveals that his new venture doesn’t mean that he has abandoned comedy.

“Comedy roots are still in me and it’s something I have invested and grown in. Comedy for me is a talent and passion, and in the spirit of diversifying my interests, I decided to get into agribusiness.

It is my side thrive and I want to invest in it as I continually empower the youths,” he said.

Since he doesn’t have knowledge and expertise on fish farming, Global Tilapia will be managing the project, as well as offering a market for mature fish.

His farm is located in Lake Victoria and has a production capacity of about 100 tonnes (100,000 kilogrammes) in a month.

Global Tilapia currently operates a network of 12 retail outlets across Nairobi, which serve walk-in customers and handling online deliveries.

The retail chain sells fresh tilapia fish from Homa Bay on the shores of Lake Victoria.
