Kenyan motorists will start paying more for fuel from midnight after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) reviewed the prices.

After the revised prices, super petrol and diesel consumers will pay Sh2.67 and Sh2.13 per litre respectively, while kerosene consumers will pay less by Sh1.26 per litre compared to what they have been paying in the past one month.

Consumers in Nairobi will buy a litre of super petrol at Sh112.87, diesel at 104.45 and a litre of kerosene at Sh102.69 for the next 30 days.

The prices are the lowest in Mombasa, with a litre of petrol, diesel and kerosene going for Sh110.40, Sh101.40 and Sh100.21 respectively while in Kisumu, a litre of super petrol will go for Sh113.58 from midnight, while diesel will retail at Sh103.37 and kerosene Sh103.61. In Eldoret the cost of super will be Sh104.74 per litre, diesel at Sh96.53 and kerosene Sh94.77 per litre.

In Nakuru, super petrol will cost Sh103.77 per litre, diesel Sh95.56 per litre while kerosene Sh93.81 per litre.

In a signed statement by EPRA, Director General, Robert Oimeke, said the changes were due to the increase in the average landed cost of imported super petrol, diesel and kerosene.

The average landed cost of super petrol increased by 3.91 per cent from $471.01 (Sh47, 412) in December to $489.44 per (Sh49, 267) cubic metres, while that of diesel rose by 2.68 per cent to $506.92 (Sh51, 026).

However, the import cost for kerosene dropped to $495.32 (Sh49,859), signalling a 2.64 per cent drop. The prices are inclusive of eight per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with provisions of the Finance Act 2018.

“The Free On board (FOB) price of Murban crude oil lifted in January 2020 was posted at S$ 67.80 (Sh6,824.75) per barrel, a decrease of 2.09 per cent from $ 69.25 (Sh6970.70) per barrel in December 2019,” Oimeke said in the statement.
