Jubilee wars: Parties registrar sends Tuju back to drawing board
Deputy President William Ruto wins round one as Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu asks Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju to address—internally—issues raised by over 350 objections before the change of office bearers is effected by her office.
Nderitu also directed Tuju, in a letter dated April 16, to apprise her office with deliberations and resolution once the they are done.
Alternatively, the matter can be taken to the Political Parties Dispute Resolution Tribunal for hearing and determination, she suggests.
"Resolve issues raised internally and abide by your constitution and other laws governing political parties," she said.
DP Ruto had termed the changes as 'fraudulent' and 'illegal'.
In a letter to the Acting Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu, DP Ruto, who appears to have been caught flatfooted by his opponents; said that the move to change the membership of National Management Committee (NMC) contravened the party's constitution and therefore, null and void.
"Please note that the National Executive Council (NEC) has never been reconstituted by the party neither have we ever constituted NEC to constitute or reconstitute the NMC.
"In light of the foregoing the intended changes of NMC membership is therefore illegal and fraudulent," DP Ruto.
Some 146 legislators also joined the DP in writing protest letters.
