Governor Nyong’o woos investors at EU-AU conference

County Government of Kisumu has embarked on a mission to woo foreign investors for the lakeside city and upcoming Africities Summit.

Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o (pictured) who is leading a team from United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA) at the 6th African Union –European Union summit in Brussels, Belgium said his mission would include attracting investors.

African Heads of State and Government are expected in Belgium this week to meet their European counterparts at the Summit.The EU-AU Summit is scheduled to be held in Brussels on February 17 and 18, with leaders focusing on joint priorities for the two sides’ common future.

UCLGA is a key partner in implementing the AU-EU joint priorities for development.

Business openings

Nyong’o said with Kisumu, set to host  the 9th Edition of the Africities Summit  from May 17 to 21, the county is keen to woo both local and global investors to come and explore business openings in the lakeside city.

“We want to increase foreign direct investment to Kisumu to create more wealth and employment opportunities for the common good of all,” the governor explained in a statement from Belgium.

In his Brussels meeting, Nyong’o is expected to give a compelling position of the African intermediary cities and local governments in playing a critical role in the advancement of national, regional and world economies.

He underscored the need of addressing the world challenges as one family in recognition of diminishing world borders occasioned by the prevailing world order.

Nyong’o said they had improved the investment climate in  Kisumu and made it easier to do business here through sound macro economic policies that attractive to investors.
