Kajiado traders return to normalcy after elections

Small-scale businesses in most Kajiado towns have resumed normal operations following the conclusion of the August 9 General Election.

A spot check by Business Hub established that traders have begun restocking their shops and opening of business early and closing late.

In the last week, the traders remained cagey in stocking their businesses and there was a trend of opening late and closing early in what the traders said was a precaution of the polls’ outcome unknown aftermath.

Kitengela, Kiserian, Isinya and Kajiado town traders said the fear is now long gone due to the manner residents carried themselves after the outcome of the polls.

They said residents remained calm and peaceful speculating that Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s move to petition the presidential election might not any significant effects on daily business.

“Traffic of customers is gradually resuming and we are making about 80 per cent of sales we used to make before the polls,” said Ann Mumbi, a cereals trader at the Kitengela market. Business at the slaughterhouse has also resumed with normal meat supply.
