Kenya Power unveils new board to energize troubled firm
Kenya Power has tapped five to the position of non-executive directors at the board as it seeks to rekindle its dimming profitability.
Outgoing Kenya Association of Manufacturer's (KAM) chairman and Economist Sachen Gudka landed the job a few days after retiring from KAM.
Others include Abdulrazaq Ali and Elizabeth Rogo, both civil engineers with over 50 years of work experience; lawyers Carolyne Kittony- Waiyaki and Vivienne Yeda, the later the Director-General of East African Development Bank.
“The board congratulates the new directors on their respective appointments and looks forward to benefitting from their vast experience at a time when the company is rolling out its growth strategy,” said a statement from the Nairobi Securities Exchange.
The five replace Adil Khawaja, Brenda Kokoi, Kairo Thuo, Wilson Kimutai Mugung’ei, and Zipporah Kering who left in a huff mid this month having tendered their resignation in what energy insiders reckoned were boardroom wars.
It is hoped that the new board will bring better tidings to the troubled firm.
Abdulrazaq has a master's degree in civil engineering with 34 years of experience in public service while Rogo is the chief executive officer of Tsavo oilfield services and has 19 years of experience in international engineering, operations, project management, consultancy, business development and management in oil and gas.
Kittony-Waiyaki, on the other hand, is an advocate of the High Court with 29 years of experience in civil and commercial practice, while Gudka is a chartered accountant who earned his profession with Price Waterhouse in London.
