KQ to focus on 30 destinations as it seeks to recover from Corona impact
Kenya Airways will fly fewer destinations and frequencies as it looks to recover from financial losses incurred due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
KQ, as the national carrier is known by its international code name, will focus on 30 destinations out of which 22 will be Africa, four in Europe and the US same as destinations in Middle East and Asia.
In a presentation to aviation stakeholders yesterday, Head of Regulatory Affairs Dalmas Okendo said the carrier will emphasise on end-to-end cargo deliveries, network rationalisation, increased hygiene and safety of workers.
Economic growth
The sector plays a key role in economic growth and development as a logistics powerhouse and revenue generator for Kenya, and the region.
Due to its linkages with various sectors, especially the tourism the impact of the disruptions was far-reaching to businesses.
The stakeholders talked of an urgent need to proper legislation and policy framework and guidelines to deal with the pandemic, as well as enhance efforts to reopen the economy with risk based approaches, testing and vaccinations.
Focus of the meeting was to start a discussion on the impact of Covid-19 on aviation sector and allied businesses.
Kenya Private Sector Alliance deputy chief executive Martha Cheruto expressed hope that from the day’s deliberations, participants could delve specifically into how these issues manifest in the aviation sector.
She said the focus should be on how the challlenges can be mitigated and what policy and regulatory interventions can be introduced to cushion businesses in the sector and increase efficiency in operations.
