Necessity is the mother of invention a popular proverb in innovation matters outlines.

Indeed some bright Kenyans have seen a need to invent a mobile application in a bid to join ongoing efforts to flatten the Covid-19 graph in Kenya.

The main features of Linda App, a mobile phone application, is to alert a person when they have moved more than one metre close to another one.

The app developers led by Eric Mungai under the Linda Initiative exclusively told People Daily, the same app can alert a person when they are getting closer to a Covid-19 hotspot.

Mungai and a team of developers from different corporate entities say, the App will be used majorly to assist Kenyans maintain social distance by use of Bluetooth technology.

"We view this App as a reward for Kenyans to stay at home and self enforcement of social distance," Mungai said on Saturday.

Another feature of the App, is to help track Kenyans who have been in contact with infected persons or rather, suspected cases, Mungai adds.

"It's a technology that warns users on possibility of an existing case that has tested positive of COVID-19 within 100 metres radius without giving out identity of individuals or their existing location," he says.

So far, Kenya has recorded 191 COVID-19 cases. The Health Ministry announced latest two cases on April 11. Kenya has recorded 24 recoveries and seven (7) deaths.

Linda App technology uses color codes to determine Covid-19 hotspot areas at any given time, and provides analysis of government data to stakeholders.

"With this App, Kenyans are assured of getting accurate information on Covid-19 and will be assisted to carry out self-assessment tests. The beauty with this App is that it also facilitates a platform where those in mandatory quarantine can report by themselves by giving accurate reports on social distancing," he said. The government recently extended by 14 days, for persons who were quarantined in a Nairobi hotel for abusing the social distancing policy.

The App according to Mungai also links rescue teams to suspected cases.

It's a digital application to curb the spread of Covid-19, he concludes.
