Anthony Gacanja has been appointed as the new Director for Networks for telco giant Safaricom.

In a statement, Safaricom said Gacanja will be responsible for the design, build, rollout, performance, and enhancement of all network infrastructure.

"Reporting to the Chief Technology & Information Officer, Anthony will be responsible for the design, build, rollout, performance, and enhancement of all network infrastructure. His primary focus will be delivering a superior quality of service to Safaricom customers," Safaricom stated.

He will also be responsible for managing the delivery of existing information system services and the implementation of new systems.

"Anthony brings onboard over twenty years’ experience in Information Technology Governance and Operations, Cyber Security, Information Risk Assurance and Software Development," the statement added.

Gacanja's previous job

He previously worked as the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Director of Information Technology before he resigned in May 2023.

In a circular to all members of staff, CBK governor Dr Patrick Njoroge stated that Gacanja “communicated” to him “his decision to leave the Central Bank for personal reasons.”

Gacanja joined CBK in April 2019.

At CBK, he was tasked with developing and delivering the IT strategy as well as providing strategic IT leadership. His role included establishing and maintaining effective IT governance practices and controls, as well as benchmark best practices in IT.
