Safaricom yesterday unveiled a campaign to loop more Kenyans into the digital space through new data offers.

The telco has added more devices to deepen its affordable Lipa Mdogo Mdogo 4G financing plan.

Through the deal dubbed Mwelekeo Ni Internet, the telco aims to educate more Kenyans on the internet, by showcasing how it can transform their lives.

“As a digital lifestyle enabler, we continue availing integrated data bundles that offer more value, delivering affordable internet-enabled devices and investing in our network to provide our customers a worry-free experience,” said Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom’s chief executive.

The internet has become a lifestyle, with more Kenyans going online for diverse reasons, a gap Ndegwa said Safaricom is keen to exploit.

As part of the campaign, Safaricom customers will enjoy 1 GB of data for Sh20 valid for 1 hour and a 3-hour 1.5 GB data bundle for Sh50 in addition to a Sh10 YouTube plan, enticements Ndegwa say will give customers more value for their purchases.

Financing plan

Safaricom plans to upgrade its entire network to 4G and sees the Lipa Mdogo Mdogo campaign as an integral cog in the process.

In the last financial year, the service provider upgraded more than 1,000 sites, bringing its 4G reach to more than 94 per cent of the country’s population.

Safaricom said it will add the Tecno Camon 17 and Spark 7 devices to an array on the array of smartphones on the Lipa Mdogo Mdogo financing plan, which has to date, benefited over 400,000 Kenyans.

Kenya’s mobile penetration grew 11 per cent between January 2020 and January 2021, to 59.24 million mobile connections or a penetration rate of almost 109 per cent.
