Nowadays people are less dependent on mains electrical power. What does this mean to the lighting industry?

New innovations are going to come up in lighting products that rely on solar energy and other forms of renewable energy. We expect to see lighting products of higher quality, use less energy and can last longer.

What are the new technologies in this industry?

The future of the lighting is in smart lighting and LED (A Light-Emitting Diode). Led is an energy-efficient, semiconductor, lighting technology.

Led lights have been rapidly replacing the conventional incandescent, fluorescent and halogen lights due to the advantages they offer.  Actually, Led will soon hold the largest market share in global lighting.

According to the latest market research report by Technavio, Led lighting market is expected to grow by more than 10 per cent in the 2019-2023 period.

However, not all products in the market will become obsolete in the near future since some of them are innovative and you can turn them into smart lighting.

What is required is the right software, which can be bought separately and will give you all the features of smart lighting.

Why is the demand for lighting rising?

The future of the lighting industry in Kenya is bright because more houses are being built to accommodate a growing population. Demand for lighting is driven mostly by the construction industry.

Furthermore, lights manufacturing firms are focusing on producing and selling innovative, durable and affordable lighting for the masses.

What challenges do you face?

This is a dynamic sector and new fixtures are always coming up. Some lights and accessories go out of fashion quickly, so sellers must offer products that can stand the test of time.

There is also a threat from counterfeits and sub-standard products and lack of consumer awareness. Most people tend to go for cheaper products, which don’t last long, rather than going for quality.

Nevertheless, declining prices of the innovative products along with the ease of use, energy efficiency and longer life are prompting users to see the long-term benefits of switching to innovative products such as Leds.

And the role of technology?

With the world keen on going green, innovators, scientists and manufacturers have been challenged to come up with more innovative products.

We expect to see more new innovations coming up now and in the future. Chandeliers and decorative lightings hold a brighter future compared with other lighting products since Kenyans are now looking for products that are good and classic.

What’s new at the showroom you opened in Nairobi?

We will be stocking all these new technologies to ensure Kenyans have quality and innovative products.

We are committed to offering beautiful, affordable and efficient lighting interior designs that enhance personal styles at affordable rates.

Our showroom will be showcasing the latest technology in the lighting and interiors, which reflect artistic influence, on-trend elements and details to contribute to affordable luxury.

The idea behind having this new showroom is to ensure that all products which are available globally will also be available locally.

The lighting industry is one of the forgotten industries in Kenya and we need to change this to ensure that it is a major contributor to the economy because light plays a very vital role in all sectors.
