A company demanding Ksh17.6 billion from the Government of Kenya over the cancellation of the Greenfield terminal project that was to be set up at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been linked to businessman Jimmy Wanjigi.

According to a section of Members of Parliament (MPs), the company belongs to Wanjigi who has already announced that he will be eyeing the country’s top seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket in the next elections.

The MPs Babu Owino (Embakassi East), Ruaraka Tom Kajwang (Ruaraka) and Abdulswamad Nassir (Mvita) on Thursday, September 9 claimed that the company identified as ACEG-CACTIC JV belonged to Wanjigi and Chinese nationals.

The sentiments come hot on the heels after the National Assembly’s Public Investment Committee (PIC) summoned Solomon Kitungu who is the Transport Ministry Principal Secretary.

According to Kajwang, the transport committee was certain that indeed the business mogul was a director in the company.

“It is important that the Ministry officials and the Kenya Airports Authority Board is put under oath so as they can confirm that they were in business with Wanjigi,” Kajwang said.

It has emerged that the company had received Sh4.2 billion as commitment fee but months later the deal was cancelled.

Nassir, who chairs the Transport Committee, said that it was important if Wanjigi is summoned to parliament to shed more light on the matter.

“Wajingi should be summoned so that he can tell us more about what is happening or he is the one who is being mentioned as a director of the company,” he said.

Owino on his take said that Wanjigi was using the money from the deal to campaign for his presidential bid.

He asked that it was time he is forced to return the funds.

“Wanjigi is indeed using taxpayers’ money to contest, he should be made to refund our money,” stated Babu.

This comes just two months after Wanjigi said that he will be seeking the ODM ticket in order to contest for the presidential seat.
