Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o will lead in wooing global investors to the 9th Edition Africities Summit slated for the Lakeside City of Kisumu later this month.

Days after being appointed as the Summit Goodwill Ambassador, the Oscar-winning daughter to Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o has taken to social media to market her home county.

Her efforts come at a time when Nyong’o and the national government are making frantic efforts to establish a reputation for Kisumu as a preferred destination.

One of the main goals of the conference scheduled to take place from May 17 to 21 is to mobilise the African and Afro-descendant diaspora to begin the journey towards the African renaissance with fellow citizens.

Regulatory environment

They include people of goodwill interested in the development, integration, and unity of Africa. Already, the government has created political stability and security along with a stable legal and regulatory environment to attract foreign direct investments to Kenya.

And like Lupita who is now proactive in social media discourse after honouring her appointment as the africities envoy, her father, too, has been busy wooing investors.

Nyong’o said Kisumu County has become the most business-friendly county in Kenya to invest in and do business, saying its landmass is huge and still underutilized.

Lupita was surprised that a number of hotels have sprouted in the lakeside county as investors angle for a share of the growing hospitality market.
