NCPB delivers 100,000 bags of DAP fertiliser to counties
National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) has as of yesterday transported over 100,000 bags of subsided DAP fertiliser to various depots countrywide to be sold to farmers for planning in the short rains season.
Managing director Joseph Kimote confirmed that one week since the national government launched the subsidy programme, a substantial volume of synthetic manure has been lifted to the various depots across the country.
“We are progressing well in terms of transporting the subsidised fertiliser to counties. So far, we have been able to distribute the commodity to counties of Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, Eastern, Coast, North and South Rift and Western counties,” said yesterday in a phone interview.
He said the quantity so far delivered is part of the 426,000 bags of subsidised DAP fertiliser flagged off one week ago by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In the various counties the manure has been transported, Kimote disclosed that farmers have started buying at the subsidised rate of Sh3, 500.
“We have had meetings with the Council of Governors with a view to ensuring the fertiliser has reached the targeted farmers. In some cases, we have had direct interactions with individual governors to ease the process of transporting the commodity. We are comfortable with the harmonious working relationship we have with counties,” he added.
The interaction with counties is further geared towards creating selling points that are closer to the farmers.
