Kenya gets 10 Nominations in this year’s Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards

Nollywood couple, Ibrahim Suleiman and Linda Ejiofor Suleiman announced nominees for 7th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

They announced the film awards last week during a special live broadcast on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.

The movies Living in Bondage and God Calling both led the nominations with 11 each in categories including; Best Director, Best Picture Editor and Best Cinematographer.

Other entries with multiple nominations include Seven, King of Boys and Ratnik with seven nominations each and Elevator Baby with six.

Kenya films have received a total of 10 nominations in this year.

Best indigenous TV series

  • Subira - Raveet Sippy Chadh
  • Dream-  Child Victor Gatonye
  • Toy Car - Joan Kabugu

Best Sound Editor Movie or series

  • Poker- Willis Abuto & Kevin Abuto

Best Lighting Designer in a Movie or Series

  • Plan B - Odhiambo Walter

Best Supporting Actor, East Africa

  • Diconnect - Iman Mueke
  • Lost in Time- Edijoe Mwaniki
  • Plan B- Sarah Hassan

Best Actor in a Comedy Movie or Series 

  • Plan B- Daniel Etim

Kenya bagged a total of 6 awards during the 6th Annual Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCAs).

The movie 18 Hours, won a total of 3 awards including Best Overall Movie in Africa and Best Movie in East Africa, Phoebe Ruguru and the Best Picture Editor (Mark Maina).

Nyce Wanjiru popularly known as Shiru was declared best actress in Africa, A slot that always goes to Hollywood actresses. Denis Wanjohi’s flesh of business won best documentary and Sarika Hemi Lakhani movie “Supa Modo” bagged the Best Indigenous Language movie. Kenya only missed out on two nominated slots, the best soundtrack and best writer.
