Brian Kimanzi.

Brian Kimanzi is an advertising creative, a social media influencer and content creator with a bias towards humour. He is not just known for his witty character both online and offline, but also his steezy fashion sense. Nailantei Norari caught up with him to learn more about his flare.

Growing up, what did you want to be and how does what you do now fit into that?

That’s a tough one because everyone wanted to be something different depending on the stage of life they were at.

When in lower primary, I wanted to be a politician (I’m happy that ambition disappeared).

Later I started bending towards more serious careers, serious here is defined by societal perceptions.

At some point, I wanted to be a lawyer or an architect. In the end, law won. But now I get to use my prowess with words to write good copy. It is all full circle, I think.

Where do fashion and your job intersect?

Nowhere. You do not have to dress up to have great, groundbreaking advertising ideas.

I just love and find myself dressing up. At this point, it is second nature and more subconscious than a mapped out outfit plan.

How can you describe your personal style and do you think it has evolved in any way?

I don’t have a specific fashion style, but I love exploring different styles that suits my body.

I will rock a suit on one day and print pants on another. I think if I had to put a pin on it, I would say so long as it is elegant and suits my physique, it is good to go.

What is your best fashion buy?

Hard question. I really can’t tell because I love the different things I buy from shoes, to pants, shirts and blazers.

I rarely buy something that will just live at the back of my closet without being won. I am not enticed by prices.

Is there a fashion trend that needs to be buried and forgotten?

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Fashion trends from the past are coming back slowly.

I really do not think there are any trends that should be buried as different styles suit some body types and not others.

It is all about personal taste and preference. There really is no rulebook or fashion bible for people to follow.

Do you have any style icons?

None whatsoever. Is that weird?

If you were to give just one piece of fashion advice, what would it be?

Dress in whatever suits your body and makes you comfortable. Also don’t be afraid to explore different styles.

Experiment and learn what works for you and what does not. It is the only way to learn what your style really is.

What mantra do you live by?

Not that I have one, but always tell people to find joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Just be present and do your best. Life is short and tomorrow is not guaranteed, so always be at your best.
