Moses Kuria’s career profile: Why he quit plum job in Saudi Arabia to serve in Kibaki’s gov’t
Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee for Trade, Investment and Industry Moses Kuria spoke about his career when he faced the parliamentary vetting panel on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.
Kuria opened up about his net worth and career while appearing before the National Assembly Committee on appointments for his vetting as Trade CS nominee.
He stated that his net worth is Ksh950 million.
Career
Kuria's didn't tarmac looking for jobs, immediately after he graduated from the University of Nairobi he got employed by several banks in Kenya before he was ultimately poached by the largest Islamic bank in the world which is based in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking before the vetting committee, Kuria narrated how he had a flourishing banking career in the Middle East which he only left and returned home to Kenya after the late Mwai Kibaki asked him to serve in his government.

1993: Graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Nairobi.
1994 -1995: Worked for various organizations including Total, and Dyer & Blair Investment Bank.
1995 -1999: Worked at Standard Chartered bank.
1999: Moved to Saudi Arabia to work for Al Rajhi Bank - the largest Islamic bank in the world.
2003: Teamed up with colleagues in the Gulf region and set up a banking and financial sector consultancy firm called WAMAD International Company. He served as Chief Operating Officer (COO).
2007: Came back to Kenya at the invitation of the late President Mwai Kibaki to work as a consultant in his government.
2008: Joined then Minister for Trade Uhuru Kenyatta as his technical advisor on Trade matters. He later moved to the Treasury after Uhuru was transferred to the National Treasury as a Minister for Finance. Kuria served as Uhuru's technical advisor at the Treasury until 2013.
2014: Contested in a by-election in the Gatundu South constituency following the sudden demise of Joseph Ngugi. He won the by-election.
2017: Defended his Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) seat in the General Election. He was re-elected.
2022: Vied for Kiambu governor seat in the General Election but lost. President William Ruto nominated him as Trade CS after Kenya Kwanza rose to power.
