Covid-19: Kenya records 568 new cases, 173 recoveries and 15 deaths

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced 568 new cases of Covid-19 from 9,029 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The total number of positive cases now rises to 162,666.

The new cases represent 6.3 per cent positivity rate.

Mutahi Kagwe says the country has recorded 173 new cases of recoveries bringing the total to 110,653.

130 of the new recoveries were treated at home and the remaining 43 were discharged from the hospital.

Kagwe adds that 1,086 patients are admitted to various health facilities countrywide. Besides, 6,381 patients are on home-based isolation and care.

131 patients are in IC; 28 of them on ventilatory support and 83 on supplemental oxygen. 20 patients are on observation.

Separately, 111 patients are on supplemental oxygen. 103 of them in general wards and 8 in High Dependency Units.

On a sad note, the CS announced 15 deaths from the pandemic raising the total to 2,865. Five of the cases occurred in the last month and 10 were confirmed during death audits.

CS Kagwe announced that a total of 911,515 persons have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease countrywide. 

Of these, 531,540 are aged 58 years and above. A total of 160,468 are health workers. Teachers account for 142,624 while 76,578 are security officers.
