Health officials raise red flag over rise in NCDs in Murang’a

Health officials in Murang'a have raised a red flag over an upsurge of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in the area.

Joseph Mbai, the executive county officer for health, said for the past five years  cases of hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, asthma and cancer have increased drastically.

He said diabetes and hypertension takes the lead attributing it to poor lifestyle among the locals.

"The number of patients seeking treatment with these conditions is rising day by day," he said.

Speaking in Kandara during a free medical camp organised  by Del Monte Company, Mbai said it is high time people embrace regular check ups and screening at least twice a year for them to know their health status.

This said would help in early detection and necessary intervention measures can be taken to tame the condition.
